No Mean City

Artist: Bruce Russell
Where: The lane way between 2 and 4 New Regent Street

The work will sound short excerpts from texts on urbanism, and literary reflections on the phenomenon of cities in culture, along with recorded instrumental interludes resembling repeated and meaningless fanfares. The texts and other sounds will overlap randomly in a jumble of signification, resembling voices in a crowd.

Here, in one of Christchurch’s few remaining dark, secret alleyways, take a moment to reflect on what it means to be part of a city. Bruce Russell, a well-known Christchurch artist and thinker is in a perfect position to enable us to take our time in this inner-city nook to ponder urban culture.
